In a lawsuit filed by Louise A. Herman of Herman Law Group, retired ophthalmologist Dr. Paul S. Koch has agreed to pay over $1.16 million to settle charges of violations to the Anti-Kickback Statute and the False Claims Act.

Namely, there were alleged claims that Dr. Koch, through Koch Eye Associates, LLP and Claris Vision, LLC, paid kickbacks to optometrists via fake co-management agreements in exchange for cataract surgery referrals that were billed to Medicare.

Herman praised her clients’ courage by stating, “It takes bravery to expose a fraud scheme perpetrated by powerful interests, and we applaud our clients for stepping forward and speaking up against corruption.”
